Pharmacy Data Entry Technician – Full Time

Prescription Processing

  • Accurately enter prescription information from faxes, electronic orders, TVO’s and verbal orders into Framework to assure the correct patient, medication, directions, facility and nursing station
  • Maintain the current goal of processing 25-30 prescriptions an hour.  If processing more refills than new orders, the hourly rate should be higher
  • Assure all discontinuation orders are processed promptly to reflect in the profile
  • Assist pharmacist(s) in screening for drug allergies and interactions, therapeutic duplications and formulary compliance by providing pertinent information via the text box/note
  • Produce accurate and legible prescription labels to be used in filling medications according to the current quality guidelines set forth for the department
  • Assist other LTC Data Entry Technicians with processing daily orders for their assigned facilities

Customer Service

  • Provide professional and courteous phone communication with all facility nursing staff
  • Document each clarification with facility contact name, date and any other information necessary
  • Follow through with clarifications until the order is completed and issues are resolved

Miscellaneous

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the LTC Data Entry Lead or the Pharmacist in Charge
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation
  • Create a comfortable atmosphere for fellow employees by maintaining the CPS Code of Conduct
  • The LTC Data Entry Lead must approve all time off requests

Work Environment

This job operates in a cubicle office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and printers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and read.  This position is largely sedentary, thus requires sitting for the duration of the shift.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of pharmacy data entry experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Must have the ability to do basic math calculations: add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Previous LTC data entry experience preferred

A Pharmacy Technician may not:

  • Accept or transcribe an oral order or telephone prescription
  • Enter or be in a pharmacy if a pharmacist is not on duty
  • Perform any act within the practice of pharmacy that involves discretion or independent professional judgment
  • Perform a duty until the technician has been trained and the duty has been specified in a written protocol

Hours:  Sunday through Thursday 7:30am-4pm
